Program Director Workshop

Program director, content director -- the title varies, but the mission is the same: chief advocate for your station's audience. That goes for what’s on on-air, online and in social media. Serving your audience involves listening, managing program schedules, leading a team, communicating effectively (internally and externally), crafting community partnerships, co-owning the revenue plan and managing your station's brand clearly, decisively, and inclusively.

Join co-leaders Helen Barrington and Dan Klefstad for the 2019 PD Workshop. This 2-1/2 day intensive blends philosophy, strategy, skills building, and small groups to hone “hard” skills such as formatics, ratings, break structure, fundraising, brand-building, and emergency planning with essential people skills: creating an inclusive workplace culture of mutual respect, cross-department collaborations, conflict resolution, recognizing and coaching talent, and performance management.

The PD Workshop is designed for new and intermediate level programmers, veteran leaders who need updating, and promotion-ready staff who work in the areas of operations, news, music, feature and documentary production and podcasting.

Participants receive coaching through the following year from the Workshop’s co-leaders, and grads often remain in close contact throughout their careers, acting as sounding boards for each other's ideas.
