4/10/2011 9:15:02 PM

Jo Anne Wallace, Vice President & Radio General Manager for KQED, San Francisco has been appointed by the Public Radio Program Directors Association (PRPD) Board. She will serve out the remainder of the term vacated by Jim Russell who resigned from the board in March to devote his full attention to his consulting practice.

In announcing Wallace's appointment, PRPD Board Chair Todd Mundt said, "Jo Anne Wallace brings a wealth of experience, perspective and vision to our board. And she joins a group of individuals who are committed to making sure that PRPD serves its members better than ever."

Jo Anne Wallace has 25 years of experience in public radio management. She served as station manager of WYSO-FM in Yellow Springs, Ohio, KPFA-FM in Berkeley, and WGBH-FM in Boston. She was director of administration and planning for NPR’s news and information programming division, participating in the development of Weekend Edition. Since joining KQED in 1990 as general manager, the station's audience has grown from 300,000 to 823,000 listeners a week in February 2011, making it the most-listened-to public radio station in the nation. Wallace has received the American Women in Radio and TV award and the Public Radio News Director's Leo C. Lee Award. She also served on the NPR Board of Directors.

"At a time when developing quality content for both broadcast and digital is more important than ever, her key role in KQED’s groundbreaking cross-platform activities will add an important component to our board’s efforts" commented PRPD President Arthur Cohen. "Throughout her career at all levels of public radio, she has been a passionate advocate for excellence in programming and public service."

Wallace will be officially welcomed to the board at its spring teleconference meeting on April 13.
