Title: Web Application Developer

Organization: WFIU Public radio/WTIU Public Terlevision

Description: Position Summary The Web/Application Developer works collaboratively with staff and interns and is responsible for the back-end programming and maintenance of WFIU.org, IndianaPublicMedia.org, and the WTIU site (in an Apache environment running WordPress MU). Additionally, he or she designs WordPress plugins, builds and codes scalable web/mobile applications, and assists in the production of mashups, data visualizations and other interactive features.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and coding of web and mobile applications (including but not limited to WordPress plugins, mashups, data visualizations, interactive maps and timelines, iPhone or other mobile applications)
  • Database maintenance and optimization
  • Other duties as assigned
  • This is a part-time position.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience with XHTML/CSS, PHP/MySQL, and Javascript/jQuery. Bachelors degree in computer science, informatics, or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with WordPress (preferably including WordPress MU and WordPress API hooks and plug-in development).
  • Knowledge of the Linux/Apache environment, including regular expressions, mod_rewrite and MySQL database optimization.
  • High degree of web savvy and demonstrated knowledge of current trends in web/mobile application development
  • Experience with Subversion or similar version control systems.

Preferred:

  • Any of the following: Java, Python/Django, Objective-C, shell scripting
  • Knowledge of third party APIs (Facebook Connect, Google Maps, Flickr, etc.)
  • Previous experience developing mobile applications (especially native application development for the iOS and Android)
  • Interest in and commitment to the core values of public service media 

Salary: $12 to $18 per hour
