Position Title: Host of "KNPR's State of Nevada"

Description: KNPR's State of Nevada is essential radio for understanding Southern Nevada. Newsmakers and experts give context to local issues; discussion and profile interviews explore the unique character %u2013 and characters %u2013 of our region. From politics to consumer issues to live music performance, KNPR's State of Nevada is a daily conversation about this place we call home. As the principal on-air Host/Producer for News 88.9 KNPR's weekday public affairs magazine KNPR's State of Nevada he/she will bring a seasoned and engaging personality to the program. The Host needs to be able to absorb significant amounts of background research quickly for the daily demands of a news-based program, and demonstrate a lively interest in diverse areas from hard news, to the arts, lifestyle and history topics.

Required: Minimum: 3-5 years experience as a working journalist, 2 years broadcast experience in radio or television. Articulate, engaging and authoritative on-air presence. Undergraduate degree in journalism or closely related field. Strong on-air hosting and interviewing skills, superior verbal agility, engaging and seasoned on air presence. Standard computer competencies with office and productivity software

Desirable: In-depth knowledge of Southern Nevada issues, politics, economics and culture. Digital audio production skills, online media/web production skills, newsroom management experience. Masters level education or equivalent professional experience Knowledge/skills/abilities: Ability to perform the role of on air host in real time on live broadcast radio consistent with the public radio style of news programs including an engaging on air presence; Use research skills to develop program concepts, focus statements, questions and scripts, generally working with producers to shape research and developing questions to create high quality on air content, under daily/weekly deadlines; Ability to synthesize information and connect diverse concepts into compelling on air content consistent with the program mission and audience of public radio; Demonstrate flexibility in reformatting future programming as guest availability changes, tenacity in securing required guests to deadlines; Demonstrate a willingness to grow with the program and possess the ability to participate with the team in the usual process for critical review of broadcast output. Respond to feedback from Director of Programming about on air style, program topics, and production values.
