Organization: NPR

Overview:

A thriving, mission-driven multimedia organization, NPR produces award-winning news, information, and music programming in partnership with hundreds of independent public radio stations across the nation. NPR listeners value information, creativity, curiosity, and social responsibility – our employees do too. We are innovators and leaders in diverse fields, from journalism and digital media to IT and development. Every day, our employees and member stations touch the lives of millions worldwide.

Role Summary:
Be the “voice of NPR.” We’re looking for a great voice talent, with production chops to match, to be the voice of NPR’s national funding credits, corporate, and promotional materials.  You’ll record all of NPR’s “support for this program comes from” announcements in our national programs, and edit/produce/traffic them though our system.  Heard by millions of people each week, you’ll get to say, “This is NPR” each day.

This is more than a voice gig.  We’re looking for someone with serious production chops, who thrives on deadlines, and is comfortable managing a complex workflow and “ready-to-air” deadlines.  You should bring a voice that’s clear, confident, and welcoming; a working style that makes the complex look simple; and be a bit tingly at the thought that your voice will be part of public radio’s daily connective tissue all across the country.

What We are Looking For:
•    A voice that’s clear, confident, and welcoming.
•    Highly fluent on Dalet, Adobe Audition, ProTools or similar production tools.
•    You know radio automation systems, and are a whiz at editing copy for clarity and time.
•    Grace under pressure/deadlines.
•    Open, direct communications skills.
•    Acute attention to detail, ability to juggle demanding deadlines, and work across departments.
•    Honesty, friendly attitude and good sense of humor.
•    Love for NPR and our public service mission

Essential Duties Include:
Performs the duties of an Announcer for NPR, providing non-editorial voice work and production for a variety of internal and external needs. Works with sponsorship team to edit, time, announce, and produce sponsorship credits. Provide voice overdubs for other NPR corporate needs.  Position is based in Washington DC.

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
•    Professional announcing voice, impeccable tone, pronunciation and verbal clarity

•    At least four years of production or broadcast experience with emphasis in professional voice announcement and production
•    Ability to work varied shifts

•    Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system

Bonus Points for:
•    Advanced understanding of radio traffic and sales systems
•    Demonstrated familiarity with the Public Radio sound.
•    Ability to sound authentic on the radio – we’re not looking for “the voice of god.”
