Our Program Director is responsible for everything that comes out of the speakers. The PD creates and communicates a clear vision of the station's programming and has the skills to create a road map to achieve those goals. This is a management position supervising six full-time and five part-time employees.  For the past six years, WTMD has served Baltimore and Central Maryland with an appealing music mix that adopts new artists early and nurtures their relationship with our audience through on-air and off-air activities.
Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):

Staff Management: The core of a successful radio station is the on air staff and the PD's ability to hire creative and passionate professionals.  Leadership skills are essential to encouraging creativity and invention that consistently raises the bar.  The PD's air-checking style will ensure a consistent sound across day parts through coaching, mentoring and other regular performance feedback mechanisms.  The ability to recognize each staff member's talents and growth opportunities is crucial to the PD's success in fostering a creative work environment. The PD will create individualized development plans for each air-staff member that fosters growth and enhanced skills.  We expect the PD to hold each staff member accountable for achieving their goals.

Content Development: Manage and develop WTMD's primary over the air programming to serve our core audience. Conceive the programming strategy for our Digital Side Channels (HD-2 to launch this year).   Create Internet only programming that includes extensions of our on-air product as well as on-line only elements. Conceive and execute the development of special projects and new program development. Select and schedule music and air staff. The PD also serves as Executive Producer for Baltimore Unsigned, our weekly music and news program that focuses on the regional music scene.

Events and Promotion Management: Lead development of local events and outreach activities, in coordination with other departments. Book bands and other talent for WTMD's First Thursday Concerts in the Park series, Emerging Artist Concerts and other events.  Assign day of event responsibilities to staff members.

Relationship Management: Create and maintain successful relationships with musicians, labels, promoters, booking agents and other stake holders that are built on integrity and cooperation in order to secure resources that can further WTMD's mission.

Management Team: Work successfully with membership, operations and underwriting to integrate mission and financial considerations into excellent programming activities. Serve as spokesperson for WTMD at industry events, in publications and other opportunities to showcase the station's creativity and leadership position with the industry.

Financial and Technical Duties: Develop and administer programming budgets. Make sure that expenses and revenues align to achieve WTMD's priorities. Monitor the quick changes technology innovations serving radio and recommend changes in our operations, equipment and software platforms in order to maintain industry-leading technical systems. Lead development of new media/new technology development and deployment.
Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Five years experience in music radio management or other related field. Public Radio experience highly desired.  Supervisory/management experience is required. Must be able to demonstrate leadership and evaluation skills.
