WFAE, the award-winning NPR station serving the Charlotte region, seeks a dynamic storyteller for a one-year fellowship focused on daily, regional and environmental coverage. This is an entry-level position.

The successful candidate will work in an environment that encourages and fosters great journalism, on-air and online. We are looking for candidates who have an endless curiosity about our communities and the processes, policies and events that impact the people who live here. The reporting fellow will work alongside a senior environmental reporter to help cover that beat, but will also serve as a daily reporter covering breaking news or trending stories.

Occasional weekend and evening work is expected. This job is located in Charlotte, N.C.

Requirements:

  • 1+ years of relevant work experience, which can include internships
  • Strong news judgment
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Ability to produce content for digital and broadcast formats
  • Ability to effectively use digital platforms for engagement, and content gathering and distribution
  • Ability to collaborate effectively
  • Ability to be nimble in a fast-paced news environment
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to work varied shifts
