News Director

Interlochen Public Radio
Interlochen, MI

Interlochen Public Radio seeks an experienced reporter and editor to direct their news team in northern Michigan. This is an opportunity for a leader with vision for public service journalism to shape the news effort and drive it forward. They need someone who can inspire others to do ambitious and high value journalism in a rural area. The ability to collaborate with other NPR stations in Michigan is also important.

The News Director will supervise three full-time employees, one part-time host and a beat reporter who is shared with another NPR station. The ND will also manage interns and occasionally work with freelance producers. The News Director manages the day to day broadcast on our news channel. IPR recently finalized a new strategic plan and the ND will be in charge developing the news service as envisioned in that document. This position reports to the Executive Director of IPR.

Interlochen Public Radio serves Northwest Lower Michigan with separate channels for news and classical music. It’s a beautiful region known for its wondrous natural resources, particularly the Great Lakes. Their FM footprint includes roughly 250,000 people in an area 200 miles across. The services are owned by Interlochen Center for the Arts, an arts education organization that has been in operation for 90 years.
